THE GOLDEN CROSS, HARVINGTON

The 1841 Census does not mention the Hop Pole specifically, however there are reasons to believe that William Jones, Innkeeper and his wife Mary lived here. In 1841 William and Mary were aged 35. He was born in Sedgeborough and she was born in Buckland (see under Dalkeith for more information). William and Mary had issue:-
  1. Mary, aged 14? in 1841.
  2. Jane, aged 10 in 1841.
  3. William, aged 9? in 1841.
  4. Henry, aged 6 in 1841.
  5. Charles Sidney, aged 3 in 1841.
  6. Ellen Elizabeth, aged 1 in 1841.
According to the Deeds of Cotswold View the Hop Pole had ceased trading by 1850.
